ORAL DISCOURSE

Talk about your favourite actor/filmmaker/film. Give reasons, why you like him/her/it.

A.With the respects to the honourable president of this seminar, our principal Sri  Garu, the honourable chief guest Sri   garu, the District Educational Officer of our district, respected teachers and my brothers and sisters. Today we are here conducting a seminar on "Films and their Impact on Students". On this occasion, I have been given a privilege to talk about "My Favourite Actor".

I like Kamal Haasan most. The total world of theatre is in him. He can act with ease and comfort. He can express myriad expressions with his eyes. All kinds of emotions of anger, humour, romance, sorrow all are expressed with perfection. He is not only a classical actor but also a commercial hero. He dances with elegance, fights well as the situation needs and makes the audience laugh with his humour. No other hero has played such a variety of characters in the history of Indian cinema. He acted as a dwarf in "Apoorva Sahodarulu", played the role of vindictive old man in "Bharathiyudu" and he played the role of an old woman in the film "Bhamane Satya Bhamane".

He played ten characters in "Dasavatharam" in which he showed the cosmetic form of acting. He is considered an encyclopaedia of acting. His films are prescribed as lessons for the students of acting. His dialogue delivery is Wonderful. Clarity, perfect modulation and expressive and emotional dialogue delivery make him stand on the peak of acting. He is an intrinsic actor. He can act C to him with perfection. That's why I like him very much. That's why he is my  favourite actor.

Rendezvous with Ray

`Rendezvous with Ray' is an account of a long association between Satyajit Ray, The world famous Bengali film-maker and Fr. Gaston Roberge who was a French-' Canadian priest. Gaston Roberge was in New York, on his way to India. He was 26 years old at that time. He happened to watch Apu Trilogy (A set of three films each film having the character Apu). He found the films so interesting that he watched all of them in one sitting. That was the beginning of his long standing association with films and culture. He  became an admirer of Satyajit Ray.

Ray's detractors accused him of making his reputation by selling India's pove to the West. But Roberge did not agree with their opinion. According to him, th spiritual poverty of some rich people was more appealing to him than the materia. poverty. He also said that he had come to India to know the world and in that process , he knew himself. Though he did not come here to convert, he got converted.

After corning to Kolkata, he joined St. Xavier's College and worked there. It took him nine years to meet Ray in person. He prepared himself to meet Ray by knowing about his works so that a meaningful dialogue would take place. They finally met which led to a close friendship of 22 years until Ray's death in 1992.

Ray was affectionately called `Manikda' by his friends. To an outsider his massive; stature might be intimidating but he was an unassuming man in reality. On eve Sunday Ray and Roberge used to meet at Ray's residence. Ray used to invite Roberg for private screenings of his films and welcomed comments on them. 1 His screen la manuscripts were an art by themselves.

There were some resemblances between Tagore and Ray. We find the whole Bengal in Ray. He was an agnostic throughout his life. Roberge felt that even in the face of death , Ray was searching for an answer .Ray left the world in19922Chitrabani  was established as a result of this friendship. It was a breeding ground for local talent  for film-making.
